Street Art Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt is over.

I have decided that due to low interest, poor planning, and a new project, I am ending the Scavenger Hunt. The panels will remain but no more will be hung. I need to focus my time and energy on other things right now. I am opening a retail store to cater to artists and fans of art that falls below the mainstream. The hunt was fun while it lasted but since there so few people interested in it, I did not want to put the time an effort into this project. There are many more reasons for the failure of this project than just low interest. Most of it has to do with me.  I will still continue to create street art of course and I do plan on trying this again. Next time I will make sure more people are involved and more media attention is paid. I have an undying passion for street art and graffiti and trying to get it into the public eye. This is not the last you will hear of Star 001. I have many more plans in this head of mine. Please check back often to see what is going on.

Thank you so much to all who have shown interest.

A special thanks to the City Paper particularly Kelly McGilvery, and everyone else who helped me feel like what I was trying to accomplish was important. You guys know who you are. I didn’t think it was appropriate to mention names.

How often do you notice the art that surrounds you daily? This is my question to all of you who are reading this.

I am going to do a little experiment that will make you take another look when you pull up to a stop light, sign or even driving on the highway. We all know of the existence of graffiti and street art, but how often do you take notice or give a second thought of just how did that get there?

I am going to be hanging a series of 26 panels around the city of Toledo, Ohio. I am going to try to make this into a bit of a game. A “street-art scavenger hunt”.  All 26 panels will be photographed and posted here once they are found. Each location of each panel will have clues posted once the are placed. I am going to do this in 2 installations. The first 13 will be placed between Thursday, May 14 thru Monday, May 18 2009.  The second 13 will be placed at a later time to be announced.

I would like if, as these things pop up, you (meaning anyone over 18 for random legal issues) would take pictures of the panels, email them to me and post a comment. The first to have sent photos of all 13 will then be in the running with the first person to do the same for the second set to find 1 piece that will be randomly placed after both sets have been discovered. The first to find the last piece will the winner.

**Prizes to be determined. I promise they won’t suck!**

So as time goes by and these things are spotted, I will post the pics. Each location will also be hinted to with pics or whatever I think sounds good at the time.

Please have fun with this. Please don’t tear down the panels and ruin it for everyone else. Please don’t throw things at the panels.Do I need to go on? I just ask people to be cool about the whole thing. If you think it’s lame email me in private. Just don’t be a jerk and we will all be fine and have fun.

If you dig what’s going on pass the link on. Help me get more peeps involved…

Here’s a hint to what you are looking for! Not hard to figure out. Right?stars copy If you have questions, post a comment or email me

Prizes will be awarded to all who find, photo, and email proof of finding all panels. Larger prizes will be awarded to the first to find all. The grand prize will be awarded to the person or group to discover all panels.

Please inform me if you notice that any panels have gone missing. It is very important to me that I stay on top that to make it fair for all.

  1. This is a really cool idea. I wish I had known about it.

Any chance you’d be up for a blog link trade? I live in the Toledo area and love the art scene – I do local entertainment and workshops about kimono.

  2. can i pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease get a hint at panel’s 3 & 9? I can’t find them anywhere and I’ve been looking for weeks.
